Center of medical regional study of Kharkiv National Medical University is founded at the Department of Social Sciences of KhNMU as a scientific structural unit of the University according to the Order of Rector of the University; and it unites researchers of medical study of region of the city of Kharkiv. Full legal name of the Center: – in Ukrainian – «Центр медичного краєзнавства імені професора В.Д. Отамановського Харківського національного медичного університету»; – in English – “Prof. V.D. Otamanovsky Centre for Medical Local Study of KhNMU”.

The purpose of the Center activity is the following: organization, coordination, scientific and educational management, control of conducting the scientific researches of medical study of Kharkiv region, as well as promotion of the results.

Main tasks of the Center are the following:

-        conducting the scientific researches in the field of medical study of region;

-        promotion and spread of knowledge of medical study of Kharkiv region;

-        introduction of medical study of region during the process of training of future medical professionals with the purpose of improvement of their national and patriotic education, particularly education of pride for native land;

-        theoretical and methodical assistance for academic workers in teaching “Science of Region” subject;

-        theoretical and methodical assistance for workers of museums and libraries;

-        cooperation with public and local government authorities, institutions and organizations of different activities;

-        coordination of efforts in the field of medical science of region with different scientific and educational organizations and institutions.

Main tasks of the Center are solved in the following work aspects, in particular:

-        collection of the materials of medical study of region, their generalization and public disclosure of the results of academic pursuits;

-        accomplishing of thesis researches on the subject of historical and medical study of region;

-        creation of information resources on the issues of medical study of region and spreading of medical studies of region by means of these resources;

-        focusing of the society on the issues of medical study of Kharkiv region with the help of mass media;

-        organization and conducting scientific conferences, academic seminars, “roundtable discussions” conferences, readings, presentations, discussions, contests of students’ research papers, guided tours, etc.;

-        preparation of books, teaching and study guides, methodological guidelines, etc.;

-        participation in project execution concerning the preparation of encyclopedic and reference literature, guide-books, festschrifts, calendars of memorable dates, etc.

The Center is subordinated to pro-rector for Research of  KhNMU.

The Center is managed by Director who is appointed to the post and fired by Rector of the University upon the recommendation of pro-rector for Research.

Scientific management of researches of the Center is performed by Scientific Adviser, who is assigned by the Order of Rector of the University.
